Friday, July 25th- Dear Mrs. Roosevelt
This performance is presented by the Drama Enrichment Program of the Reg Lenna Civic Center, Jamestown, NY.
Dear Mrs. Roosevelt - As the country plummets into economic depression, young people are trying to make sense out of what is happening around them. The President seems to be providing some relief for the millions of unemployed and disillusioned workers, but is it enough and will it happen in time? Eleanor Roosevelt had spoken often of her concern for the country's children. "I have moments of real terror when I think we might be losing this generation. We have got to bring these young people into the active life of the community and make them feel that they are necessary." --New York Times. Thousands of children and young adults wrote letters to her, asking for help. They talked to her as a confidant with whom they could share the details of their lives, no matter how painful or even embarrassing to them. In their letters, they seem certain that the First Lady will come to their aid. Written by D.E.P. Director, Michele Constantino, "Dear Mrs. Roosevelt" makes its Warren debut on July 25th at 8:00 pm. Doug Watson as Will Rogers Doug Watson as Will Rogers. Speaking of hardships that many Americans faced in the early 1930s, Will Rogers said, “I guess that I’m one of the luckiest guy alive--I’ve got a wife, three kids, a ranch out in California, and more work than I’ve got time to do.” Looking back over my life today, I’d have to say that I’m also one of the luckiest guys in the world--family, a home, and work worth doing that I enjoy. For most of my adult life, that work has been teaching. For the past fifteen years, it’s also included what I’d have to call more “play” than work--historical characterization. Since 1997, that has meant mostly performing versions of my Will Rogers character in Chautauquas and a host of other venues across the U.S.Enjoy Doug Watson's portrayal of Will Rogers on Saturday, September 6th, at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $18.00 for adults and seniors and $10.00 for students and children. Tickets for the "Wit and Wisdom of the Legends" 3 show series are also available as well as family packages. Contact the Theatre office at 814-723-7231 for ticket information.
